Teeth whitening is a popular and safe cosmetic treatment used to lighten and brighten the current colour of teeth.
At Ausbridge Dental , we offer two types of application: one performed by our qualified dentists in our dental chair, and the other, by yourself using a prescribed at-home kit. The results you can get from professional whitening services are much better than those you can get from the chemist or supermarket.
Ausbridge Dental uses the latest technology in whitening, minimising whitening side effects such as sensitivity and eliminating the need for a bright light shining in your mouth! There has been a lot of research to show that there is no damage to your teeth by having them whitened by a dentist. Off the shelf teeth whitening products do not always give reliable outcomes.
The benefits of dental teeth whitening:
- Dental whitening is a safe and quick process
- Teeth whitening makes a big difference to your smile
- Most teeth are suitable for dental whitening
- Having your teeth whitened by a dentist is safer and more reliable than using off-the-shelf whitening products or systems
Is teeth whitening suitable for you?
During a consultation, our dentist will professionally assess your teeth and dental history to determine whether teeth whitening is a suitable option for you. We will look for factors such as enamel thickness, receding gums, sensitivities and existing restorations or tooth decay.
Cavities need to be treated before teeth are whitened because the whitening solution can penetrate decay and reach inner areas of the tooth, which can cause sensitivity. Professional cleaning is done prior to whitening to ensure the very best results.
We can also assess and address any possible underlying problems that might be causing your teeth to discolour.
The 2 options for Teeth Whitening
1. In-chair teeth whitening treatment in just ONE HOUR – The World’s FASTEST!
This is the fastest and most effective way to achieve a whiter set of teeth. Our one-hour whitening procedure can whiten your teeth with immediate results.
During a consultation, our dentists will apply a powerful whitening agent onto the surface of your teeth.
POLAoffice+ by SDI is an advanced whitening system that our dentists will apply to your teeth in our practice. It is ideal for anyone looking for instant results. This procedure is carried out in only one visit, and is completed in under one hour
Lie back and relax and listen to music or watch a movie while having your teeth made several shades whiter during your lunch break.
2. Take-home teeth whitening kit
A major benefit of purchasing a take-home whitening kit from Ausbridge Dental is that your treatment is individually tailored. During a consultation, we design and manufacture a custom-made bleaching tray that is made from a mold of your own teeth. It will fit precisely and comfortably around your teeth.
They look like clear and fine little mouthguards and are designed to fit the contour of your teeth precisely. This ensures better contact between the whitening gel and your tooth enamel is achieved, enhancing your result. Secondly, we will supply you with the correct strength of bleaching agent for your teeth.
SDI POLA DAY and POLA NIGHT is available in several different strength and we’ll consult with you to choose the right one. Once your customised kit is complete, you’re ready to whiten your teeth in the comfort and convenience of your own home.
Under our supervision this technique is safe for your teeth and gums, and results are generally achieved within several days.
We use and recommend OPAL by SDI tooth whitening system
There are many whitening products out there that our dentists have used and trialled. We recently looked at all the dental whitening products on the market and found the Opal Tooth Whitening system to be the safest and most effective to lighten your teeth.
Its also known as the worlds fastest whitening system!
1. How long does whitening last?
The biggest deciding factor on how long a dental whitening treatment lasts for is your lifestyle.
Red wine, tea and coffee, and darker coloured foods are all examples of things which will affect your whitened smile. Smoking and age are also big contributors. We do have some maintenance options to help you prolong your white smile for years after your treatment. To get a better idea for your own teeth please feel free to come in for our complimentary 15 minute assessment.
2. How white will my teeth go?
Every patient is different and each patient’s teeth will only lighten to a particular point. You may not get a big white Hollywood smile (most of these are porcelain veneers which we are happy to talk to you about if you are interested).
Lifestyle, age and the colour of your teeth pre-whitening will contribute to how light they will go. To get a better idea for your individual situation we offer a 15 min complimentary consultation to discuss whitening with dentist who can give you a guide of how much your teeth will lighten.
3. Does tooth whitening hurt?
Everybody’s teeth are different with how they react to things like cold water, air and whitening treatment is no different.
If you are already a sensitive person then you may experience some sensitivity but there are things we can do to reduce this. We recommend a product known as Tooth Mouse to treat sensitivity problems. Using de-sensitising products like Sensodyne and Pronamel toothpastes prior to your whitening can also help.
4. Why don’t we use a light or laser?
We have trialled and tested several market leading whitening systems on patients and our own staff – both with and without a light!
We have found the OPALOFFICE + by SDI to be the safest and most effective to lighten your teeth. It’s the latest technology in whitening and does not require a light nor the heat generated by the light to activate the whitening process.
Unless you have purple or grey teeth where laser has an advantage, most people will get excellent results using standard dental whitening procedures and don’t require laser treatment. Laser treatment is very rare and we noticed that many advertisements claiming to use lasers are actually using lights!
5. How does teeth whitening work?
A thin coating forms on your teeth throughout the day, which attracts stains. The tooth’s enamel contains pores that hold stains. The whitening gel applied to the teeth opens these pores and draws staining out from the layer underneath. This allows your teeth to appear whiter, brighter, and years younger when your treatment is completed.
Following your procedure it’s recommended that you not drink tea, coffee, red wine or eat highly coloured foods for at least 72 hours. You should also refrain from smoking for at least four days as this will have a negative effect on your results.
6. Can whitening damage my teeth?
When used correctly, our whitening systems will not damage your teeth. If overused or used incorrectly, whitening can actually lead to your teeth becoming darker and whitening will no longer work.
